Wanda Mills is the founder of the advocacy organization, “Rolling into the Future.” The organization was developed for people with physical disabilities, who have the mental capacity to have a normal life.

She was born April 4, 1949, with the cerebral palsy. As a result of this disability, she cannot walk and uses a wheelchair at all times. She has limited use of her hands and a speech impediment which makes speech difficult. Other than these physical limitations, she is as “normal” as anyone. It is her philosophy that “God made me the way I am and if God Almighty isn’t ashamed of me why should I be.” Wanda was also born with a strong desire to live life to the fullest.

Wanda’s goal is to educate the public of the high functioning sects of people who are forced to live unfulfilled lives because “the system” is geared to meet the physical needs of the disabled who are low-functioning and their families and caregivers. Another of Wanda’s goals includes educating society that high functioning individuals with disabilities need help in establishing goals in education, careers and living arrangements based on choices made by the person with the disability. Her plan is to do this through her writings, public speaking, and being an advocate for the rights of people with disabilities, in every aspect of her life.

Wanda hopes through “Rolling into the future,” her public speaking and writings will encourage those with disabilities to strive to reach their highest potentials in every facet of their lives. Another goal of hers is to educate the public that “those of us who have disabilities have the same rights, hopes, and dreams as everyone.” Their choices for life need to be respected and valued by society.
